TQUK Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) – EFAW

Gain a nationally regulated Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work qualification with practical, instructor-led training for workplace first aiders.

The TQUK Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) is a regulated one-day workplace first aid qualification designed for people who are, or are preparing to become, Emergency First Aiders at Work.

The course develops the essential knowledge, practical skills and confidence required to assess an emergency, provide immediate first aid and obtain appropriate professional medical assistance.

Training is delivered in accordance with the Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) 2025 Guidelines and current UK workplace first aid requirements, with a strong emphasis on practical competence and confident emergency response.

Who should attend?

This qualification is suitable for employees who may be required to provide immediate first aid following an accident, injury or sudden illness in the workplace.

It is particularly appropriate for nominated Emergency First Aiders and organisations where the employer's first aid needs assessment identifies Emergency First Aid at Work as the appropriate level of training.

Rather than relying solely on descriptions such as a "low-risk workplace", employers should consider their workforce, workplace hazards, location, working patterns and access to emergency medical assistance when determining their first aid provision.

What does the course cover?

The course develops essential workplace emergency first aid skills, including:

  • Role and responsibilities of the workplace first aider
  • Infection prevention, consent and incident recording
  • Assessing an emergency situation safely
  • Primary survey and casualty assessment
  • Recognising and managing an unresponsive casualty
  • Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Practical use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Recovery position and ongoing monitoring
  • Seizures
  • Choking
  • External bleeding
  • Recognition and management of life-threatening bleeding
  • Shock
  • Minor injuries
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Summoning appropriate emergency assistance

Training has a strong practical emphasis, with learners required to demonstrate essential first aid skills using appropriate training equipment and simulated emergency situations.

Regulated qualification

Successful learners achieve the TQUK Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF).

  • Qualification Level: Level 3
  • Framework: Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF)
  • Qualification Number: 603/2170/2
  • Guided Learning Hours: 6 hours
  • Qualification validity: 3 years

Course duration

1 day – 6 hours of instructor-led training, excluding breaks.

The course is normally scheduled over approximately 7 hours including appropriate breaks.

Assessment

Learners are assessed through a combination of practical demonstration and knowledge assessment.

Practical assessment is embedded throughout the course. Learners must successfully demonstrate the required first aid competencies and achieve the required knowledge assessment to gain the qualification.

Course delivery

This qualification is available through scheduled courses and can also be delivered on demand for organisations at their own premises.

For group bookings, on-site delivery allows employees to train together and provides opportunities to consider first aid within the context of the organisation's own workplace risks and emergency arrangements.

A suitable training space is required to allow learners to participate fully in practical exercises, including floor-based CPR and casualty-management activities.

Certification

Learners who successfully complete the course and assessment receive the TQUK Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) certificate, valid for three years.

Annual first aid skills and knowledge refreshers are recommended to help workplace first aiders maintain competence and confidence between formal renewal courses.

Minimum age: 14 years.

Learners should have sufficient command of English to understand the course content and complete the required assessments. If a learner requires additional support or reasonable adjustments, please contact us in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be considered.
